Jøkelfjord
Join us on a trip to the Økfjordjøkelen Glacier in the Jøkelfjord, a small fiord in the Kvænangen area.
The Øksfjordjøkelen Glacier is the only glacier on the European mainland which breaks off directly into the sea. The glacier is around 1200 m high and covers an estimated 47 km².
In April, May and October, you can see reindeer herds swimming across the fiord. The sea eagle is not an uncommon sight in this wonderful nature area. On the return journey, we visit Birger and Synnøve Mathiassen, who are local fishermen and farmers. We enjoy a cup of coffee, freshly baked waffles and Birger’s smoked salmon with freshly baked bread.
If we have sufficient time, we can head up to Skalsavatn Lake and try kayaking or go on a guided walk up to the glacier. This tour will provide life-long memories. The tour lasts five hours or around seven hours if you chose the option of kayaking.
