Skjervøy is an island situated in Northern Norway around 110 km north of region’s largest city, Tromsø, at longitude 70° N and latitude 21° E. Skjervøy has a proud history as a trading and fishing centre dating back several hundred years and is today home to around 3000 residents.

The Skjervøy Municipality comprises many islands connected by ferries, tunnels and bridges. Skjervøy has an excellent infrastructure and a lively society. Here in Skjervøy, you will find facilities including a supermarket, bank, hospital, pharmacy, various shops, a marina with guest jetty, hotel, pub, cabins, boat hire, charter boats and local guides offering activities including fishing, hiking, skiing, historical trips and bird-watching.
In recent times, Skjervøy has been major centre for shrimp production and the fishing industry. Unfortunately, this industry is now experiencing difficult times. Tourism now provides a large proportion of the local population’s income. A recent addition to local industry is production of
North Altlantic Whelk, mostly for export to Asia. North Atlatic Whelk are also served at Skjervøy’s Hotel Maritim.
Skjervøy provides excellent schooling for its youth, with an intermediate and secondary school, which offers courses on fisheries and aquaculture. The school has its own salmon farm and a course about coastal tourism and training for guides run in collaboration with local tourism companies.
Skjervøy is a great place to experience the best of both summer and winter tourism
activities in safe surroundings with a friendly, welcoming population. Check
